About Dörte Rother
The group 'synthetic enzyme cascades' targets the enzymatic synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients or precursors thereof from cheap starting materials. Enzymes with different specificities are collected in so-called enzyme toolboxes. When modularly combined into enzyme cascades, whole product platforms of valuable products can be produced. In addition to multi-step syntheses with purified enzymes, immobilised catalysts and whole cell approaches are investigated in buffered systems and unconventional media. Reaction- and process engineering targets both ecologic and economic competitiveness. One novel research interest is the combination of microbial cell factories, enzymatic and chemical steps to generate value from renewable resources.
Lectures take place at RWTH Aachen University while research activities are conducted at Forschungszentrum Jülich.
