Ebert research group focuses on the rational, model-guided engineering of microbial production strains and processes for industrial biotechnology. Towards this goal, we are following a systems-level based approach consisting of the three major steps: metabolic analysis, modeling and simulation, and strain engineering.

In the EC FP7 program HeCaToS, the group is responsible for physiological modelling of the liver and vertical integration of computational models which partly follow different mathematical formalisms. At the organ and the organism level, physiologically-based pharmacokinetic, short PBPK modelling is used to develop detailed descriptions of the liver including for example zonation.

Wierckx Group

Research group Wierckx has moved to the Forschungszentrum Jülich since Oct. 2018.

The group was active at the iAMB from 2011 until 2018 and focused on the bio-based production of chemicals using microorganisms. Major research themes include metabolic engineering of bacteria and fungi, the development and application of synthetic biology tools and the systems analysis of microbial metabolism.
