New publication about PET upcycling
We are happy to announce that the manuscript on PET upcycling has been published in Metabolic Engineering. The enzymatic cleavage of PET foils to the monomers ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid was utilized. Further, P. putida was engineered to metabolize these monomers and subsequently produced the biopolymer PHA as well as the ‘platform molecule’ HAA from the monomer mixture. HAA could finally be polymerized to form a novel bio-PU. We thus showed the proof-of-concept for a new upcycling route of post-consumer PET.
